Title: Ye Olde English
Description: Communicate like the old days!
sakaki_fan - April 4, 2004 01:14 PM (GMT)
Here's my latest inspiration for a forum game, it might die, or it might become a new cult, but either way, it'll be fun! ^_^
You can talk about anything that you like, but you must talk in Ye Olde English!
Good idea? We'll see how it goes! :D
tomtom - April 4, 2004 01:23 PM (GMT)
<english>
Surely, woman, you jest!?!? This sort of thing is preposterous!! It shall never catch on!! Daft of you to even suggest it in the first place.
</english>
------------------
is that ye olde enough? or do you want shakespear-style yee old?
sakaki_fan - April 4, 2004 01:33 PM (GMT)
I'd like it Ye Olde like in the Lisa's wedding Simpsons episode, but I dont want anyone to feel alienated or anything, so as Ye Olde as you can make it.
What you have written is nice, but it's more 20th century... im talking 15th century to 18th century! Shakespeare was 16th century. Chaucer (author of The Canterbury Tales) was born in the 14th century, but english at that time was too hard (for the average Joe I mean).
Does that give you a clue??
Nerroth - April 4, 2004 01:36 PM (GMT)
Considering Irish is thousands of years older than English I wouldn't consider the cancerous tongue to be 'old' per se...
Gary
Wheeler - April 4, 2004 02:13 PM (GMT)
Thou hast a bitter hatred for the English tongue, mayhaps?
Kasuga Ayumu (Osaka) - April 4, 2004 06:48 PM (GMT)
The english you talk were taking is Elizabethian English...cmetom. Real Old English is formed from the Germanic Tribes of Ancient Europe, (Before even England and France and the Euro Countries.) The only found document in old english is Beowulf, which is a story of a hero. Never read it though <_<
Btw, old english is basically gibberish to us. The language is so old it is almost runic. The letters in the modern alphabet is based off the Greek and the Roman adaption of the greek alphabet.... thus means alpha and beta =Alphabet.... The first 2 letters in the Greek Language
I've done my thing now, please continue
Hachiko - April 4, 2004 06:53 PM (GMT)
Fac ut vivas. Ooops, wrong language!
bakajin - April 4, 2004 06:56 PM (GMT)
I shalt proclaim mine allegience to Kasuga Ayuma's most excellent and true statement. But, I shaltalso confess to thee, my brethren, that be that as it may, I shalt still endevour with mine entire strength of will and body to learn this ancient script known to us as "Ye Olde English" of greater lore than our most precious speech.
For aye, I shalt also learn that less aged speech of man called Middle English which the great Chaucer wrote in. Aye, indeed, my quest shalt begin forthwith when I finish mine other quests for the comprehension of languages coming from five nations, some lost to bygone years.
---
Note: I have never read Chaucer.

Hence, so you shall.
(Just for thine own reference, dear bakajin, Chaucer was the originator of what people of the moderne age calleth "pornography," whatever that is. The Nun's Tale and the Introduction are hereby two examples of this "pornography," so to speak.)

Me thinks this thread shall be the end of us all!
evaboi - April 4, 2004 09:27 PM (GMT)
Verily sir you speak truly. This thread does make a mockery of us all.
It reminds me of an amusing anecodote I heard at a dinner party at which Lady Tomo did make a fool of herself and the Grand Duchess Osaka couldn't make herself understood at all.
The winter chill is still with us, pray throw another neko onto the fire to warm our frozen bones. I will then own you most seriously in a game of Metal Gear Solid......
Blade - April 4, 2004 09:57 PM (GMT)
Why I may par take in a game of Soul Calibur 2 if thou truly wantest to be owened ......... Oh heavens no it wouldest appear I have spontaneously combusted
Aekei - April 4, 2004 11:08 PM (GMT)
Verily, now Blade ist slain.
Doth thou desire the power? :P
Fuyuko - April 5, 2004 12:07 AM (GMT)
Good sirs, would you be so kind as to remove Blade from the floor, his slain body is a dreadful sight to mine eyes, and it dost stain the ground most terribly.
5ver - April 5, 2004 12:29 AM (GMT)
Good greacious! Do my eyes decieve me?! A body is slain upon thine floor! You good sir, Mods, and good lady Osaka should have this dreadful sight taken away indeed!
Aekei - April 5, 2004 01:32 AM (GMT)
Removal is desired by thee? Forsooth! I will cleanth it with godspeed, good sirs!
Jin~Jah Calrissian - April 5, 2004 01:48 AM (GMT)
Where shall thou obtain such cleening product good sir?
Aekei - April 5, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
Hither, in ye old supply closet. Verily, we shall procure the cleaning ointments.
5ver - April 5, 2004 03:23 AM (GMT)
Me thinks we shall journey to ye olde Walmart! Away my chaps, let us go!
protoman - April 5, 2004 05:45 AM (GMT)
Bully! What a ingenious idea, 5ingham the III! I shall secure transportation, post-haste. However, I shall be crest-fallen if thy see no ani-dames.
Jin~Jah Calrissian - April 5, 2004 05:55 AM (GMT)
We shall see many ani-dames on the way to ye olde Walmart! Come along then people, into the vehicular trasportational device!
Souji - April 5, 2004 08:11 AM (GMT)
Kasuga Ayumu (Osaka) - April 5, 2004 11:53 AM (GMT)
I shall verily Laugh out Loud.......MWHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAA
evaboi - April 5, 2004 12:39 PM (GMT)
It would also be most prudent to inquire who has eaten all the pies that cook made earlier today. I notice the Lady Yomi is nowhere to be seen at this time. Mayhap the two events are more than mere coincidence I wager.
I see also that the chimney does require a good sweep. Pray fetch the child Chiyo-Chan and get the idle brat up said chimney post haste.
I would gladly assist you in these ventures good sirs, but I have a prior engagement in the form of a "hot date" with the charming Lady Sakaki....
Goddess - April 5, 2004 01:42 PM (GMT)
I'll grant, the child hath most certainly hastened to the pastures after her lessons in the stuffy schoolroom with Old Mrs Potty...
motorola_otaku - April 5, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
Ye gods! The Old Speech hath been revived!
Methinks leetspeak hath seen the end of its days!
Aekei - April 5, 2004 10:09 PM (GMT)
Aye, mayhap the days of leet hath come to an abrut ending. Mine fears hath been quelled, unless a soul begins scribing ye olde leet.
Goddess - April 6, 2004 03:39 AM (GMT)
Ye olde leet sounds blasphemous to ye olde english...
osakaki - April 6, 2004 04:08 AM (GMT)
Verily, I hath shielded mine eyes from the shining countenance of this thread for long enough.
Come, my fellows! Rejoice! Uncork your mead and quaff heartily, for the time has come to celebrate the wonder of Ye Olde English!
sakaki_fan - April 6, 2004 02:11 PM (GMT)

sakaki_fan - April 14, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
Keep it legible.
My goodly people, you find me here once again to revive the spawn of my intellect. Though methinks talent in this quarter is severly lacking due to reasoning I cannot fathom. Thou hast found me in a state, for I can write of these mefiddles better than I canst write them themselves.
Long live Queen Victoria!
Aekei - April 14, 2004 07:15 PM (GMT)
Forsooth, good lady Sakaki. For I shall verily "bump" thy thread back to its rightful place.
Blade - April 14, 2004 07:17 PM (GMT)
Forsooth tis time for Lady Hina and Master 5ver to be wed.
Nagare Akatsuki - April 14, 2004 08:07 PM (GMT)
Avast, me lads, for it be time to take the women folk away and make wives of them! Yaharr!!
People used to speak like that.
