Title: Azu Character Theme Songs

osakaki - August 5, 2004 11:03 PM (GMT)
Do you notice a song that fits well with an Azumanga Daioh character? If so, post it up! Feel free to add lyrics or even an MP3 download if you have that capability!

Example:
"Float On" by Modest Mouse would make a pretty good theme song for Chiyo Chichi, if in title and chorus only. :D

For Osaka:
QUOTE (Bad Religion @ Blenderhead)
Flying through a dark prismatic tunnel on a carousel
The Earth is turning and you know it very well
Your mind is reeling like ten helicoptors wheeling
And you're gonna hit the ceiling like a mallet on a bell

Hey, Blenderhead, they're starting to ask questions
Your transgression's a danger flashing sign
Challenge conventions and radiate your splendor and feel those flywheels turn your blenderhead

Tally up the gleaming tender ventured on a whishing well
Each shiny trinket has a story it can tell
Your moments pining like those tales all intertwining
Can become the rusted lining of a deep neglected shell

Hey, Blenderhead, you ask so many questions
Your confusion's a life-affirming sign
Break from tradition and carry on with valor and let those flywheels turn your blenderhead

Except for those two lines that are kind of off, it seems pretty fitting. mp3

Clearly someone needs to do a "bad religion: The animation" picture.

Japanimanga - August 6, 2004 02:19 AM (GMT)
I think that "Dont Let Me Get Me" by Pink might be a pretty good song for Yomi, only the chorus and title though. I'm not sure if teachers dated her or her parents hated her... and I dont think she was compared to Britney Spears. That's why only the chorus and title. Do you think that'd be a good song for her?

Bad Religion + Osaka = ... um... :xd:

(On closer inspection of the lyrics, that does seem surprisingly Osaka-ish...)

Jason - August 6, 2004 06:59 AM (GMT)
For Chihiro: Metallica's "Invisible Kid." Mostly just for the title, but the first verse does seem apporpriate (with slight modifications since she's a girl):

QUOTE
  Invisible kid
Never see what (s)he did
Got stuck where (s)he did
Fallen through the grid

motorola_otaku - August 6, 2004 02:58 PM (GMT)
Black Flag's "Six Pack" for Yukari. :D

$35 and a six pack to my name
SIX PACK!
Spent the rest on beer so who's to blame
SIX PACK!

For Osaka, for some reason, I keep coming back to Jimi Hendrix songs.

Maybe it's because her speeches sound like Hendrix lyrics?

At any rate, here's one:

Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix)

Purple Haze
All in my brain
Lately, things don't seem the same
Acting funny, but I don't know why
'Scuse me while I kiss the sky

Purple Haze
All around
Don't know if I'm coming up or down
Am I happy, or in misery?
Whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me

Help me!
Help me!
Oh, no, no...
(solo w/ ad lib vocals)

Yeah!
Purple Haze
All in my mind
Don't know if it's day or night?
You got me blowing, blowin' my mind
Is it, tommorow, or just the end of time?

Wooo...
Help me!
Ye..yeah yeah!
(ad lib until fade)

This fits Tomo nicely, IMHO:

QUOTE (Jerk It Out @ Caesars)
Wind me up
put me down
start me off and watch me go
I'll be running circles around you sooner than you know
A little off center
and i'm out of tune
just kickin this can along the avenue
But i'm alright

coz it's easy once you know how it's done
you can't stop now
it's already begun
you feel it
running through your bones

and you jerk it out
jerk it out

shut up
hush your mouth
can't you hear you talk to loud?
No I can't hear nothing 'cause I got my head up in the clouds
I bite off anything that I can chew
I'm chasing cars up and down the avenue
But that's ok

coz it's easy once you know how it's done
you can't stop now
it's already begun
you feel it
running through your bones

so you jerk it out
jerk it out

Ah, as a matter of fact, Ms. Anderson is planning that right now! I will contact Azumanga Records on her project.

(Jeezus, are you clairvoyant on the next big thing from Miss Sakaki or what? LUCKY POINT FOR YOU!)

Ooh. I just thought of a good one. For Yomi, it's Cake's Short Skirt/Long Jacket.

It's my Osaka abilities <wheea wheea>.

That, and if you hadn't, I would have had to learn to photoshop and do it myself

This fits Kimura...

SIMPLY IRRESISTABLE
(Robert Palmer)

How can it be permissible
She compromise my principle, yeah yeah
That kind of love is mythical
She's anything but typical

She's a craze you'd endorse, she's a powerful force
You're obliged to conform when there's no other course
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistable, Simply irresistable

Her loving is so powerful, huh
It's simply unavoidable
The trend is irreversible
The woman is invincible

She's a natural law, and she leaves me in awe
She deserves the applause, I surrender because
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistable, Simply irresistable

Simply irresistable (She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went)
Simply irresistable (She's all mine, there's no other way to go)

She's unavoidable, I'm backed against the wall
She gives me feelings like I never felt before
I'm breaking promises, she's breaking every law
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistable . She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went
Simply irresistable She's all mine, there's no other way to go

Her methods are inscrutable
The proof is irrefutable, Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
She's so completely kissable, huh
Our lives are indivisible

She's a craze you'd endorse, she's a powerful force
You're obliged to conform when there's no other course
She used to look good to me, but now I find her
Simply irresistable (She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went)
Simply irresistable (She's all mine, there's no other way to go)
Simply irresistable (She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went)
Simply irresistable (She's all mine, there's no other way to go)
Simply irresistable!

Speaking of Kimura, this isn't exactly an original idea (it was made into an AMV, after all; in fact, the AMV is the only way I know the song), but Oingo Boingo's Little Girls works, no?

The Gerb-meister - August 17, 2004 11:05 AM (GMT)
I just thought of another one, this time for Kaorin. I think it sums up her relationship with Sakaki quite nicely:

Bon Jovi's "She Don't Know Me" (have no idea who wrote it)

What more can I do, there's nothing I haven't tried
Still it's so hard for her to notice
That I've tried hard to be straight
There's nothing left I can say
If only she would look my way
Hey Hey
But...

Chorus:
(She don't know me) she don't know
(She don't see me) she don't care
(She can't hear me) she can't hear
(Can not help me) she don't want
(She don't want me) like I want her
(Like I want her) I've got to tell her
(Got to tell her) that I love her
(That I love her)
She doesn't even know my name

I dream of when she'll be mine
I dream of crossing that line
And holding her so tender
Dreaming it could come true
So many things I could do
If only you'd give me a chance
Oh!

Chorus

<Instrumental Bridge>

Chorus and fade

For Sakaki (seriously this time), thinking of the first summer episode

The Little River's Band's "Cool Change" (Glen Shorrock)

If there's one thing in my life that's missin'
it's the time that I spend alone
sailing on the cool and bright clear water
there's lots of those friendly people
they're showing me ways to go
but I never want to lose their inspiration

Chrous:
It's time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
and now that my life is so pre-arranged
I know that it's time for a cool change

Well, I was born in the sign of water
and it's there that I feel my best
the albatross and the wales, they are my brothers
and it's kind of a special feeling
when you're out on the sea alone
staring at the full moon like a lover

Chorus

Bridge:
I've never been romantic
and sometimes I don't care
I know it may sound selfish
but let me breathethe air

<Sax Solo>

If there's one thing in my life that's missing
it's the time that I spend alone
sailing on the cool and bright clear water
it's kind of a special feeling
out on the sea alone
staring at the full moon like a lover

Chorus and fade

Osaka can either be the Camelot Song from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, or Lewis Carrol's Jabberwocky.

motorola_otaku - August 30, 2004 03:45 PM (GMT)
*bump*

With a little lyrical manipulation, Primus' "Southbound Pachyderm" easily becomes "Southbound Osakajin". I think that would make the perfect accompaniment for all the Mobile Student crossovers.

animegirl - August 31, 2004 11:31 PM (GMT)
How about for Nyamo "She Drives Me Crazy"?

osakaki - March 8, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
Bump for the current thread in the Anime section remind me of this one.

I think Joydrop's "Beautiful" would make a good song for Sakaki.

QUOTE (Joydrop - Beautiful)

If I was beautiful like you
Oh, the things I would do
Those not so blessed would be crying out murder
And I'd just laugh and get away with it too
Like you do

If I was beautiful like you
I would never be at fault
I'd walk in the rain between the rain drops
Bringing traffic to a halt
But that will never be
That will never ever be
Cause I'm not beautiful like you
I'm beautiful like me
Beautiful like me

If I was beautiful like you
I'd be quick to assume
They'd do anything to please me
I know I see the reaction when you walk into a room
But that will never be
That will never never be
Cause I'm not beautiful like you
I'm beautiful like me
Beautiful like me
Beautiful, beautiful like me
Like me, like me

If I was beautiful like you
I'd have so many friends
Always fighting for my time to be next in line
So if I hurt one I wouldn't have to make amends
That will never be
That will never eever be
Cause I'm not beautiful like you
I'm not beautiful like you
I'm not beautiful like you
I'm beautiful like me
Beautiful like me
Beautiful like me
I'm beautiful like me
I'm beautiful like me

There's an Irish drinking song simply entitled "BEER BEER BEER" that would be great for Yukari. Hell, I can imagine her getting smashed and taking over the school's PA system to sing it.

For Tomo, I think Digital Droo's Monkey Developers is a good one. Here's a download and here are where the sound clips are from.

Every time I hear "Breathe" by Pink Floyd, I think of Osaka... maybe it's just the dreamy, spaced-out vibe of the song. Either that or some sort of wierd, atonal orchestral music.

...that too. Just about any lighter Pink Floyd song would work for Osaka. Another idea: for Chiyo, because of her intelligence, some sort of jazz/rock like "Little Umbrellas" or "Moggio" by Frank Zappa. Most of his works with lyrics are "not for little Chiyo's" though, but his instrumentals remind me of Chiyo though. So technical and complicated, but campy and fun anyways ^_^

Edit: You also get extra bonus points for listing a song containing 2 of the BEST guitar solos of all time... I hope Osaka appreciates it :P

Edit #2: Another DSOTM classic for Osaka: "Brain Damage"... :P

motorola_otaku - June 10, 2005 01:31 PM (GMT)
ah, those silly trolling n00bs and their illegal narcotics.

skaro's Blenderhead/Osaka peiring still works the best for me, just because I've heard it and it would make an excellent AMV. :)

Ongaku - June 10, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
Silly self-defensive argument: I for one do not condone drugs, but the song choice of that n00b was perfect. I never would have thought of that song. But Osaka really does seem to be "Comfortably Numb"...
