Title: Sayoko!
Description: baka and skaro's Sayo-chan thread
bakajin - January 20, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
Anyway, I finished watching K2's sub of the first episode of Mahoraba. As far as storywise, it is pretty much what I got from watching the raw. Shiratori moves to Tokyo to go to art school and moves into his mother's cousin's lodging house.
Kozue has multiple personalities. There's the guy who talks through his puppet. There's Tamami who is just weird. The entire house is full of nosy occupants. Overall it's enjoyable and cute. A little slow in the first episode though.
K2's translation on the other hand was, as far as I could tell, pretty decent. However, the English was odd. The use of 'have' and 'do' in their various forms was particularly odd. There were also puncuation and spelling errors. Still understandable though. I'd wait for Froth-bite's version. Also partially because K2's version is 250 megs as well. The raws are smaller files.
Anyway, it is highly recommended, except for the wait.
Current subbed version:
here. And despite what some people thought upon seeing the promo, it is not a harem anime. Just a cute romance thingy.
*edit*
Yet another change to the thread title! :o
osakaki - January 20, 2005 09:14 AM (GMT)
Downloaded the Froth-Bite promo a while back, and the weirdness will compel me to download it once it's available through them! ^_^
Aekei - January 20, 2005 04:22 PM (GMT)
250 Megs? @_@
I'll wait for Froth Bite's, too, then! :P
bakajin - January 21, 2005 12:25 AM (GMT)
Abso-bally-lutely speldiferious news! Ayu, subbers of Marimite and Shinobuden, have released the first episode of Mahoraba. And in a decently sized, 170 meg, package as well!
Go. Download. Enjoy. :P

So I watchified this one. Pretty spiffy. I shall continue on to see what becomes of this interesting ooya-san!
Aekei - January 21, 2005 03:52 PM (GMT)
Episode 1 is now downloaded. I'll watch it later today and post my thoughts.
Aekei - January 23, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
hehe... I wasn't too sure about this one until the split personality bit showed up. Now I want more. ^^

If it hadn't been for that I woulda given up as well.
And next episode you get Yankee Kozue, Regular Kozue, and 6yo Kozue. So far I like the Yankee version best. You only got about 30 seconds of Saki though, which is sad.
I have also heard that one of the characters has a suicide problem in the manga, but that got changed to hiding under the porch.
And isn't dog-puppet guy awesome?

Anyway, because I just
know y'all are dying to see more of my tied-for-favorite show of this January season, more Mahoraba has been released by Froth-Bite.
And my BitTorando doesn't want to connect. File can be found
here. Not a direct link to the torrent file though.

You're right with your first guess.
And I'm interested to see more of this split personality, Bakajin! ^^
bakajin - January 31, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
I liked "magic of carp" or "carp's magic" better. :D
There is much Saki and then a little Nanako at the end. Momotato, as usual, has a pretty good commentary on the episodes. I think he's a little overly harsh on the seiyuu though....

Wonderful news has reached my eyes. Mahoraba numero 三 has been subbed by Froth-Bite. This is the Nanako episode, and Nanako has a slightly grating voice. :( However, the characters are more formally intorduced as well.
Available
here. Must scroll down a bit.

I loved Nanako. Maybe that's just me though. I also love Johnny

I don't have a problem with Nananko, just her voice. Not like Momotato'sproblem with her voice.
Johnny pwns. :P

I just have to mention Tamami, Sayoko, and Miyabi now. They are all rockingly awesome. Tamami with her tentacle hair, Sayoko with her I-dunno-what-it-is-but-it-rocks-ness, and Miyabi and her I-dunno-what-etc. too.
Oh, and y'all want to go to
Froth-Bite and download a copy of episode 4. Because it owns your soul.

I watched up through episode three... This series is really growing on me! And to think... I almost didn't watch it. :P
Koudanshi - February 18, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
For some reason when episode 1 came out, a lot of people on other boards were talking about how much like Love Hina it was... wierd stuff. I watched ep 1 thinking I was gonna see another stereotypical harem anime, and was pleasantly surprised to see a completely original cutesy anime of awesomeness.
Of course, this is not saying that Mahoraba is not a harem anime... it's just a harem anime involving only one girl. I love the fact that I can say that and actually make sense.

I noticed that too. I was muchly confused by it, as I had watched the raw and didn't really notice many similarities, besides the fact that it was based in a traditional style boarding house.
And I do love the "harem anime with only one girl in the harem" description.
bakajin - February 22, 2005 06:46 AM (GMT)
Just watched episode 7.....
Sayoko

I like having my raws.... Bonsai on head!
Skaro - February 22, 2005 05:37 PM (GMT)
I just got me the first episode of this. I have one question so far: that is an apartment complex?

I'd call it a boarding house. I'm not entirely sure what the Japanese implies, but I sure wouldn't call it an apartment complex.
But Sayoko

Lenludke = nutso. And I've only seen one personality so far. I hope the others are more stable.
Edit: Neksdorsike = AWESOME.

Lenludke is landlady? I don't think her other personalities are more stable.... (though I've only seen the Kozue, Saki, and Nanako. There are two other versions, or so I hear.)
Unless you are referring to the residents....
*edit*
Neksdorsike? Nextdoor "ke"?
Skaro - February 22, 2005 05:57 PM (GMT)
Lenludke = lenlud + ke (which makes it feminine). Lenlud is Yinglish, from slurred English of landlord.
I don't think neksdorsike has a masculine form. It's also Yinglish. It's the person who lives neksdor.

I figured 'ke' was feminine for some reason... But what is Yinglish? It looked German to me, but also not German.
But wuu! I are teh awesomer guesser!

Yinglish is that lovely American meld of Yiddish and English. So yes, very German-but-not-German. ^_^
osakaki - February 22, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
Nanako is cute. Seeing a large girl act like a little girl for an episode is also pretty cute. Pretty much everything about this whole series is cute.
Dave's post on page two is also cute.
Hikki Kokurabuji - February 22, 2005 10:10 PM (GMT)
News!! Mahoraba's official OP & ED by Nipponsei are out! Go and grab them, before Aoba cries in dismay and switches personality.
This series is the cutest I've ever seen in a while after Tsukuyomi Moon Phase.
bakajin - March 1, 2005 06:05 AM (GMT)
Just watched episode 8. Saki goodness. Though I am still waiting for her next two personalities. And much like episode 6, I actually heavily understood this episode.
However, there much cuteness on both Kozue's and Saki's parts. Tamami and Momo-chan pitched in as well.

Sorry about the different shades. I don't know how to adjust the darkness of an image yet.
