Title: HAPPY CHRISTMAKWANZAKAH/HOLIDAYS

kelliemort - December 24, 2009 10:44 PM (GMT)
Happy Holidays everyone! :( I know I promised I would post more in the forums except for the one time I post about ZOMG OTAKON2k10, wait eight months and then start spamming about ZOMG I HATE YOU COSPLAY, but the remainder of 2009 totally blew. Like ... for realz. Minus seeing Patrick Stewart, of course. Everything else was the most major downer I've ever experienced in my entire life. And most of you know me well know to know that it's rare to ever see me all D: about anything.

SO -- here's to hoping that 2010 is the most awesome year in the world for everyone every where.

Otakon crew, am TOTALLY looking forward to another weekend of pure and utter awesomeness.

Wonderland forum crew, BE SAFE! And be awesome. Fo' sho! <3

I have one I wouldn't mind taking up with Governor Jim, namely helping a Wisconsin company snatch a government contract from another company down here that is going to put a couple of my friends out of work. UP YOURS, GOVERNOR JIM. :death:

:aha: Then how did they decide to celebrate Jesus's birth on December 25?

:chiyo: People in the temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere tend to celebrate the winter solstice because it indicated that the daylight hours would start getting longer again, and spring would eventually return.

The Romans, with their Saturnalia festival, were no exception. The early Christians simply used the same time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Since Jesus's birth date was not known for sure, why not celebrate it in the cold, gloomy time of year when people need something to cheer them up?

Besides, from a Christian perspective, the fact of His birth is the important thing--the date, not so much. ^_^

Of course, the seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere. Maybe if Christianity had originated in the Southern Hemisphere, we'd celebrate the birth of Jesus in late June?

8D That might be better. Then Santa wouldn't have to worry about the fire being lit by mistake when he came down the chimney.

According to the books he was not born but just appeared when Maria was a sleepin' and when she woke up she was like say whaaaaaaaat and swore she never had sex before which either means she 'sleep sex'ed' or had some serious Alzheimer at early age. :P

There was an opening in the calendar. "Jesus? Yeah, put him in ahead of Steve. But not before Johnny K.!"

On Christmas Eve, our local fire department dispatching agencies will read a fireman's version of "The Night Before Christmas" over the air like a dispatch call. Have a recording: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZTHEUG6U
