Title: Grace Under Pressure
So in the modern day and age of the internet, people seem to be downloading music more and more, and some bands are even nice enough to GIVE AWAY their music, completely free of charge. The point of this thread is to share discoveries of completely free music. This is not the place to post torrents of commercial releases or pirated music. Only stuff that's been freely released by the band themselves (think Radiohead's "In Rainbows" or Nine Inch Nails' "The Slip" for well-known examples). Also acceptable are free singles released by bigger bands. Bear in mind that these free music offers can expire at any time though, and I will not reupload any song that has been pulled from free download. :P

Remember though, no commercial releases (ie. pirated music) are to be posted here, and I'm pretty slick at recognizing these things. Most of them will release it for free on their own website, and not through a fan site or blog.

Also, a lot of bands that release free music allow you to donate to them as an option, so I'd encourage you to do so if you can, because these bands are awesome enough to give their music away for free :)

Anyways, on to the first post!

An avant-garde rock band called maudlin of the Well has released their most recent album, Part The Second completely for free on their website. The album was funded via fan donations, allowing them to release it completely for free.

Basically, the music is like a dreamy Pink Floyd/Porcupine Tree sound with some avant-garde orchestral elements involved. Kinda dream-pop-y. Really awesome, jazzy, dreamy stuff.

Again, the link for the album is here, and you have three download options: VBR mp3 as direct dl from their site, CD-quality WAV and FLAC files as torrent files.

Enjoy, and feel free to share your own free release discoveries :D

Bradford Cox (who is quickly becoming one of my favorite musicians), from the bands deerhunter and Atlas Sound releases various singles, virtual 7 inches, and 'micromixes' on his blog found here. his music could be described as indie/ambient/experimental, but i dont really like to get caught up on labels.

Cool idea!

Three songs from Protomen's first cd.
Half of Random's Megaran 9 album.
Select Start is a classical group that covers video game music. They've got the whole album up for free.

Neshanic, a pseudo-band I became acquainted with over Stage.FM and befriended over Facebook, has just posted their entire discography in their MySpace blog. All Megaupload links.

If I had to describe the music, I'd say something like early 80s post-punk.

The Bad Dudes have video game cover albums on their site that are all free, save one.

OCRemix has a bunch of album projects on their site, too. Required Metroid links:
Reserve Tank: VARIAtions
Relics of Chozo

Kris and other 'Tales of' fans may be interested in Summonin of Spirits, a Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Symphonia project.

A crapload of NiN fans recently released an officially sanctioned video production of a recent NiN concert for free. The quality all around is pretty phenomenal.

Mine and Vince's favourite Dutch prog rock project, The Aurora Project, recorded a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and put it up for free download:

Click

Sadly, it looks like it adds you to a mailing list (which I will promptly unsubscribe from) but you can download it in many formats, which is much better than most free music downloads, if you feel you must have it in FLAC or AAC or wav.

Following what they did with In Rainbows, Radiohead has released <a href='http://radiohead-prague.nataly.fr/Main.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>an entire live DVD</a> for free, in many different formats.

It was shot in Prague, Czech Republic, and the camera footage was shot by members of the audience. But the quality is actually really decent and the audio is perfect.

Czech this one out! :P

Atlas Sound recently released 4 album length demos on his site recently, which are awesome, but i just found out today that he did like, 5 versions of a christmas song.

<a href='http://deerhuntertheband.blogspot.com/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>http://deerhuntertheband.blogspot.com/</a>

also a bunch of indie bands are doing christmas songs. i usually hate christmas and holiday music, but i think i'm gonna make an 'a very indie christmas' mix.
